Choose the operator before quoting the rule

Trenitalia and Italo serve overlapping corridors but do not share pet fares or booking flows. Verify the marketed train, not merely the city pair.

Rome and Milan require separate planning

Rome’s ATAC and Milan’s ATM apply size, time, fare or vehicle restrictions that differ from national rail. A central station arrival is not proof that the final metro leg works for a large dog.

The data gap is real

Local transport coverage and policy clarity are patchier in parts of southern Italy. Routes there require more manual checking and should be described with corresponding caution.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Yes on eligible services with the correct ticket, lead, muzzle and required documents.

Do Italo and Trenitalia have the same dog rules?

No. Italo prices the dog during booking, while Trenitalia publishes service-specific fares.
