Booking the railway
Add a large dog as the passenger type ‘Dog’ in Deutsche Bahn’s booking flow. The old shorthand of a universal half-fare ticket is no longer precise enough for every product, so use the price returned for the exact itinerary.
Cities are separate systems
Hamburg, Munich and Rhein-Ruhr each publish their own pet rules. First-dog-free or all-dogs-free arrangements are common, but ticket and carriage conditions are not national law.
The coach gap
FlixBus does not accept ordinary pets. A cheap itinerary that quietly replaces rail with coach is therefore not a dog-friendly equivalent.
